Why was the M4 near Bridgend closed for hours this morning?

The M4 was shut in both directions at Bridgend this morning after a two-vehicle crash.

The serious crash, involving a car and a motorbike, closed the motorway between Junction 35 and Junction 36 while an air ambulance attended.

The crash happened just after 7am on Tuesday, October 26 on the eastbound carriageway.

There were queues of around seven miles on the eastbound carriage trailing back to Pyle/Porthcawl.

The westbound carriageway was closed temporarily while the air ambulance landed.

One person was transported via road to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

The road was closed eastbound for around two hours. Traffic built in the surrounding areas of Sarn and Bridgend as people diverted to avoid the crash.

Emergency services, including police and air ambulance, attended.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 7am, emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the M4 between J35 and J36, Bridgend.

"An air ambulance was in attendance.

"The road was closed in both directions and was reopened around 9.30am. We thank motorists for their patience."

A spokesperson for Wales Air Ambulance said: "I can confirm that Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident near Bridgend this morning (26/10/21). Our Dafen-based crew were mobile at 8.26am. Following treatment at the scene, our medics escorted the patient in a road ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Our involvement concluded at 9.40am.”
