Why was the A4232 Southern Way in Cardiff shut for hours this morning?

The A4232 Southern Way in Cardiff was closed in both directions this morning after a rush-hour crash between a car and a van.

The closure of the busy road caused severe delays to the east of the city. There was heavy traffic around Rumney and Splott, with traffic also backing up onto A48 Eastern Avenue to Pentwyn.

There was queueing traffic due to a crash involving a car and a van between the A4161 Newport Road Flyover and Rover Way Roundabout.

Emergency services have been approached for comment, however, police say there were no reports of any injury. The fire service confirmed they did not attend.

The road was closed for almost two hours while the vehicles were cleared.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police was called shortly after 6.30am concerning a collision which happened on the flyover linking the A48 to the A4232 Southern Way.

"The collision involved a Toyota Yaris and a lorry.

"There are no reports of any injury. The road was cleared shortly before 8.30am."
