Why was Rover Way in Cardiff closed today?

A key route into Cardiff was closed for almost three hours following a traffic collision.

Rover Way in Splott was blocked in both directions after a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Tuesday morning (September 7).

Two people were taken to University Hospital of Wales following the incident, which happened at around 8.45am, with emergency services - including an air ambulance - attending the scene.

There were also delays from Tide Fields Road to Seawall Road while the road was cleared, with South Wales Police advising motorists to find alternative routes.

However, Rover Way was reopened in both directions shortly before 11.30 am after the accident was cleared and traffic was able to flow as normal.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at approximately 8.43am this morning to reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle in the Splott area of Cardiff.

"We sent one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance and the Wales Air Ambulance to the scene. Two patients were taken by road to University Hospital Wales Cardiff for further treatment."

At the time of the incident, a spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Emergency services are in attendance on Rover Way, Cardiff, after reports of a collision between a car and a motorcycle at around 8.45am this morning.

"The road is currently blocked in both directions and motorists are advised to find alternative routes."
