Why was Zac Efron watching Tottenham vs Brighton?

Spurs managed to defeat Brighton and return to third in the Premier League with Hollywood eyes watching on Tuesday night.

So it was something of a surprise to see a Hollywood star watching on in the stands.

What was happening on the pitch was in need of some intervention from the Greatest Showman as the Lilywhites struggled to wear down a stubborn Brighton side in the presence of actor Zac Efron, caught on camera watching on at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The High School Musical star was present at the new White Hart Lane thanks to the invitation of Dele Alli and saw Christian Eriksen's 25-yard strike claim Tottenham victory in the 89th minute after finally breaking down the Seagulls' resolve.

Efron's appearance caused a stir with some fans, who believed the American film star to be an Arsenal fan, having been spotted at a game at the Emirates once wearing a Gunners shirt.

But that may not necessarily be the case.

Efron is over in the UK promoting his new film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile, in which he plays the role of famed serial killer Ted Bundy.

And Efron admitted back in 2014, during a predictions game with BBC Sport's Mark Lawrenson that he likes to watch a game when he is in this country.

The film star said back then: "I get to a few LA Galaxy games, but not enough. It's fun and the sport is really starting to grow in the United States.

"I saw David Beckham play a few times and watched a game next to him, which was awesome. He is a great dude.

"When I am in the UK, I always try to get to a game. I saw Arsenal play Chelsea in 2012. The chants you have here are insane - like a long poem that every single person knows. It is a little different to baseball."

And after noticing that he had been caught on camera, Spurs officials acted quickly, handing him a commemorative Spurs vs Crystal Palace shirt from the opening match at the new stadium and he was seen wearing it next time the camera went to him.
