Why Walkers are bringing back two old flavours of Quavers

If you thought the world wasn't already mad enough, Walkers have asked someone to hold their beer and entered the fray by re-introducing flavours of Quavers that aren't cheese.

Two new flavours - Salt & Vinegar and Prawn Cocktail - went on sale today in shops across the country.

The Leicester-based crisp manufacturer used to produce a wide range of Quaver flavours - your memories of Tangy Tomato, as well as Prawn Cocktail and Salt & Vinegar aren't false, it really did happen.

And in fact, it wasn't actually that long ago that you could get Quavers that weren't cheese flavoured - just nine years ago in 2012.

Quavers were launched with Cheese and Salt and Vinegar back in 1968, and prawn cocktail followed back in 1998, so it is not as weird as it sounds.

Walkers asked fans of the snack which flavour they'd like to see back, and 190,000 people voted in just four days, so the company decided to bring both back, although sadly not Tangy Tomato.

“After being inundated with requests, tweets and petitions over the years, we know just how excited everyone is going to be to try these legendary flavours again," said Will Robinson, from Walkers.

"Following a challenging 2020, I’m sure we could all benefit from a moment of Quavers floaty light enjoyment, and I’m personally looking forward to snacking like it’s the nineties again!”
