Why Wales boss Ryan Giggs was forced to wear a green bib during Euro 2020 qualifier with Croatia

International football has once again captured the imagination of Welsh football fans, with their side kicking off a crucial double-header of Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia on Saturday.

However, a number of supporters were left a little confused when boss Ryan Giggs was spotted on the sideline wearing a green bib.

The bizarre get-up caught the eye of a number of fans on social media, some of whom jokingly suggested the Manchester United legend looked like he was among the substitutes at the Stadion Gradski.  You can follow all the action from the game here .

But, as it turns out, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation.

The decision for Croatia to play in their black away kit meant they clashed with the dark clothes worn by those on the Wales bench, with referee Istvan Kovacs insisting he put on the bib to ensure he did not confuse the linesman during the game.

Meanwhile, some fans out in Osijek won't have caught a glimpse of Giggs at all, with a number of supporters denied entry ahead of kick-off due to problems over identification.
