Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta has insisted his role expands outside of dealing with transfers and has given an insight in his responsibilities at the club.
Orta is an integral part of the Whites recruitment team, working closely with Marcelo Bielsa to bolster United's squad for promotion to the Premier League.
However, Orta has plenty of other remits outside of the summer and January transfer window, including scouting and the club's academy structure.
Speaking at a recent Wyscout event, Orta explained: "My role is all about decisions in terms of football in the club. I have the responsibility to co-ordinate to take (decisions). Obviously, to be part of the choice of the head coach. All people think about recruitment but not only this. All the human resources of the football side, medical department.
"I even control the media image of the club, scouting department and everything related. I also oversee the academy. We have a manager for the academy but I need to have control and oversee the academy.
"Then my role is to take all the decision about football, I need to be involved."
He continued: "One of the challenges in my role in England is people don't know is our duty and our tasks. In Italy and Spain, our role is more acknowledged by the people. In England is starting to be (ac)knowledged with successful examples like Stuart Webb at Norwich City. But not a lot of years ago people think my role was even involved in the line-up, the training, the methodology of the training. That is not totally true.
"Obvious (it) is nothing (like this), it's completely the opposite. My principal goal is to try to reach the work of the head coach and try to create a philosophy, like a club philosophy in the club.
"For me, we need to have responsibility for three things. Sports results, business results and community results. Having a perfect balance of these for me can be a successful situation in my role."
