Why Victor Lindelof is not in the Manchester United squad vs Chelsea

Victor Lindelof is out of Manchester United's match with Chelsea through illness.

The MEN understands Lindelof, 25, did not travel to London with the rest of the squad on Sunday and has been replaced by Eric Bailly.

Bailly, 25, has not started a professional match since he sustained an injury against Chelsea on April 30 last year and spent five months of the current campaign sidelined with knee ligament damage.

The Ivory Coast international has been named in a three-man defence with captain Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, who started at centre half against Liverpool and Manchester City last month.

Lindelof missed the 2-0 defeat to Burnley last month due to illness and sat out the October loss at Newcastle with a back problem. The Sweden international has started every other Premier League fixture this season.

The United website showed Lindelof in training pictures and footage from their warm weather training camp in Marbella last week but he could be a doubt for the Europa League round-of-32 first leg at Club Brugge on Thursday. United fly to Belgium on Wednesday.
