VAR actually checked two things for Sadio Mane goal for Liverpool against Wolves

Not for the first time this season, VAR has been involved in a Liverpool game after Sadio Mane’s opener was given by the technology.

The Reds were in action against Wolves at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s side looked to move 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

And after a goalless opening 42 minutes, Klopp’s side looked to have opened the scoring when Mane finished from close-range.

But referee Anthony Taylor immediately whistled and gave a free-kick to the visitors after he had judged Adam Lallana to have handled the ball in the build-up.

However, replays then suggested that the ball came off the shoulder of the former Southampton man and following a lengthy review at Stockley Park, the goal was eventually given.

Fans were then quick to hit out at how long it took to review the goal, with many left unimpressed by the waiting time.

But Sky Sports have confirmed that those inside Stockley Park were not only checking for handball, but also whether Taylor blew his whistle before the ball had crossed the line , as if he had, the goal would have been chalked off.

Then, just minutes later, Wolves saw an equaliser ruled out by the technology for offside.

It left Nuno Espírito Santo and players furious with the officials, although the correct call was made by VAR.

Liverpool went on to win the game 1-0.
