Why Val Thorens Continues to Be a Top Choice for Snow Lovers

As the highest ski resort in Europe, perched at 2,300 metres, Val Thorens boasts reliable snow and modern facilities that appeal to skiers and snowboarders of all levels. It has a long ski season, and the varied terrain has made it a firm favourite among Brits for years.

If you're interested in booking Val Thorens ski holidays in the 2025/2026 ski season, check out our breakdown of the resort below.

Snow Sure and Scenic

Nestled in the French Alps' famous Three Valleys, the resort enjoys some of the most consistent snow coverage in Europe. Skiers can count on a season that stretches from late November right through to early May, making it an excellent choice for both early-season and spring skiing.

Val Thorens is surrounded by the towering peaks of the skiable Pointe du Bouchet (3,230m) and Cime de Caron (3,200m). The resort is situated in a natural amphitheatre that provides access to the vast Les 3 Vallées ski area. It's particularly known for spring skiing, when longer days and sunnier skies combine with snow-sure conditions to create an impressive alpine experience.

A Resort That Suits Everyone

Val Thorens is an excellent resort for families, with a host of kid activities, including sledging runs and snow parks designed for younger adventurers. Many hotels and chalets also provide childcare, giving you peace of mind while you hit the slopes. During the evenings, you can soak in the vibrant après-ski scene, with highlights including La Folie Douce and Bar 360, or Le Saloon for a more relaxed atmosphere.

The resort offers plenty of gentle green runs near Le Rond Point and Place Carron and ski schools for beginners. More experienced skiers can test themselves on steeper red and black pistes like the Combe de Caron for spectacular views and mogul-heavy skiing. For an alternative experience, take the kids ice driving or zip-lining for the afternoon to add some variety.

What Makes Val Thorens Unique?

Val Thorens features a modern, efficient lift system that minimises queue times and extends your time on the mountain. The ski-in/ski-out layout means you can step out of your accommodation and straight onto the pistes, which can be a lifesaver if you've got young kids.

The village itself is vibrant and modern, and mostly pedestrian-only, making it easy and safe to get around on foot, even with snow underfoot. Unlike some purpose-built resorts, Val Thorens has successfully created a welcoming, community-like atmosphere that appeals to families and younger groups alike, with numerous restaurants and shops within a short distance of the slopes.
