Why Tyreece John-Jules is absent from the Arsenal squad for Nottingham Forest clash

Kieran Tierney, Mesut Ozil and Rob Holding all started for Arsenal in tonight's Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.

In addition, head coach Unai Emery has included youngsters, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli, Tolaji Bola, Robbie Burton, Bukayo Saka and Folarin Balogun in his matchday squad.

However, there's one academy starlet who has missed out.

Tyreece John-Jules, who impressed during the first-team squad's pre-season tour in the summer, is denied the chance of making his senior competitive debut at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Football.london understands that the reason for the teenager's absence is injury related.

The striker picked up a slight knock and it's clear that the medical team have opted against risking him against the Championship outfit.

It's also understood that there was a strong chance John-Jules was in line to start so this will come as a blow as he targeted making his first-team debut after signing a new deal in the summer.

"I’ve been hanging around with Lacazette and Aubameyang, trying to learn from them on and off the pitch," John-Jules told Arsenal.com. "They've just told me to be positive, to be confident when I'm on the ball, especially with the first team.

"I've got to show what I can do and keep going. I can learn so much from them.

"It's always been a dream come true to play at this club.

"As always, I've been working hard, so I think I deserve this new contract.

"I'm just trying to push on now to impress the manager.

"I need to keep working hard, playing for the first team and when I get my chance, try to take it as well as possible."
