Why Tottenham will keep front row empty for Man City clash at new stadium

The front rows of the north and south stands at Tottenham’s new 62,062-seater home will remain empty against Manchester City.

The first two rows of both the stands, behind each goal, were unavailable for the stadium’s opening game against Palace, due to concerns over camera placements blocking sight-lines.

The second row of both stands will be open tomorrow after the concerns proved unfounded, with the club set to monitor the front rows with a view to opening them soon.

Spurs also held back a number of tickets on contingency for the first game and are therefore expecting close to a full stadium against City, after supporters who could not get tickets were frustrated by the 59,215 capacity in the 2-0 win over the Eagles.

Some fans reported difficulty using public transport due to increased demand, but Transport for London are not thought to be running extra trains for the City game.

A spokesman said: “We have worked closely with Tottenham Hotspur and Haringey Council on the expected increase in customers using the local stations on event days. Ahead of the stadium opening test events have taken place to ensure these plans are safe and robust.”
