Why Tommy Fury missed Jake Paul press conference ahead of December fight

Tommy Fury missed the first press conference ahead of next month's bout with Jake Paul having returned to the UK due to a family emergency.

The fighter was due to make an appearance in Saturday's press conference but was forced to pull out, with Paul sending his respects to his competitor.

It has been reported that Fury returned to the UK to take care of his ill mother but these reports have not been confirmed.

However, Paul gave credence to those reports with his message of support at the press conference where he told reporters:

"I'm upset that Tommy's not here. I know he’s taking care of his mother and I respect that as a man. I hope she’s okay."

With Fury unable to attend, trainer Sugarhill Steward, who is Tyson Fury's head coach, appeared instead - with Tommy training alongside his brother back in the UK.

Fury was due to do his training for the fight in Las Vegas but those plans may now have changed, although it's not clear how long he will be in the UK for.

It means his father John Fury is likely to play a more active role in his preparation for the bout than was initially planned.

However, his father cannot be in attendance for the fight in Miami next month due to visa issues - having previously missed his son's victory over Anthony Taylor.

Tommy is 7-0 so far in his career and faces fellow unbeaten fighter Paul, 4-0, in his second fight in the United States.
