Why Tom Brady gave Jordan Spieth the silent treatment after a round at Augusta National

Tom Brady is obviously ultra-competitive. You don’t win six Super Bowls if you’re not.

But his competitive streak is not limited to the gridiron, and Jordan Spieth recently shared a story, which perfectly encapsulates that. While at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Spieth stopped by the Dan Patrick Show on Friday and told a story about golfing with Brady at Augusta National one time. It ended with Brady not speaking to Spieth for a bit.

Spieth, who described himself as “a big TB12 fan,” explained:

“We had a two-on-two match, and I ended up birdieing the 18th. He had a stroke on the 18th. I hit it in there to a few feet, and he drove it up almost too close to the green and tried to hit a flop shot. Left it in the bunker, made bogey. The match was tied, so I won. He made bogey, I made birdie for a two-shot flip on the last.

“And you’re supposed to go in at Augusta and, you know, have lunch and hang out, and he didn’t say a word to me for like an hour and a half. The most competitive — I feel like I’m very, very competitive, and he is the most competitive human being I’ve ever met.”

Spieth said for a little while, Brady was very “talkative” and having a good time. But then the 2015 Masters winner added an extra tidbit about the outing that might have helped spark Brady’s silent treatment.

He continued:

“I think when I hit the 3-footer, I was looking at him as I putted it. It was one of those, and I think that probably didn’t help the cause.”

After that, what else did Spieth expect from Brady?
