Why this Scottish city is one of the cheapest places in the UK to buy a home

A CITY in Scotland has been named one of the cheapest places in the whole of the UK for buying a home.

Analysis from Zoopla suggested that there are a handful of places across the country where it is relatively easy to find a property for under £150,000.

The research showed that just 12% of homes across Britain are priced at under £150,000, with locations like Sunderland in the north east of England boasting a remarkable 49% of properties for under this rate.

In Scotland, it was Aberdeen leading the way, with 49% of its listings being priced under £150,000, according to Propertymark and Zoopla.

Highlighting why the city is a great place to buy a home, Propertymark said: "Aberdeen is ideal for many families, as it is considered fairly safe, as well as having top-notch schools and colleges."

According to Visit Scotland, the city, which is the third largest in Scotland, is famous for its "sparkling granite buildings and monuments, a beautiful beach where you can spot dolphins, and the warming tones of 'Doric', the local Scots dialect you'll hear in the streets".

Aberdeen is also home to both the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University and enjoys a number of green spaces like Duthie Park and Union Terrace Gardens.
