Why this Nottingham woman's simple tweet has been liked nearly 250,000 times

A tweet by a Nottingham woman has been liked nearly a quarter of a million times in less than two weeks.

And although Karen Miele's cat Chips features in the tweet, its not the moggy who has received the enormous response.

Instead, it's the lady who took a photo of Chips and posted it through Karen's door - just to tell her what a lovely cat she had.

It read: "For you. Your lovely cat I always look for him. Jean.'

The photo was even dated on the back.

Karen, who is originally from St Austell in Cornwall but now works as an artist in Nottingham, tweeted on May 10 saying: "An old lady took a photo of my cat Chips, went to the trouble of getting it developed and then put it in our letterbox this morning."

Since then, 241,000 people have liked the tweet, 26,000 people have retweeted it, and 1,300 have commented on it.

And while Chips is a cute cat, it's the actions of Jean that have caught people's attention.

People have been commenting from as far away as South Africa and the United States.

The story has a happy ending, too, with Karen updating people that "a lot of people have asked about Jean and how she might be feeling". She then said a friend of hers knew who Jean was, and "we’ve invited Jean to meet Chips whenever she likes".
