Why this Newcastle United shirt remains special for Magpies legend Kevin Keegan

Kevin Keegan has revealed his all-time favourite Newcastle United shirt.

With retro kits now dominating the market in the run up to Christmas, Keegan found himself signing a host of early festive presents on his return to Tyneside this week.

But which one did Keegan rate the best?

The evening at Dunston was themed around United's 1984 promotion season as KK joined the likes of Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley and Terry McDermott.

But inevitable mentions of the Entertainers followed.

Keegan told the Sunday Sun: “When you look back at it you have your favourites.

"We've signed loads of shirts from different eras being up here.

"Some of them you don't like or are horrible to sign because you can't see the autographs on them.

"But I think going back to our playing days the shirt embraced the city a bit.

"The old Blue Star and Newcastle Breweries was very much part of the city, right across the road from the ground.

"It had the Tyne Bridge on there too.

"It was an iconic shirt.

"There were others I liked, when I managed I loved the one with the grandad collar, it was a fantastic shirt.

"People bring things for you to sign and it really does take you back.”
