A "SOPHISTICATED" and "intimate" basement bar in Scotland has been named one of the best in the world by Time Out.
Located in the "trendy" Stockbridge area of Edinburgh, Skua was named alongside other renowned locations around the globe, including Uptown in Buenos Aires and Tokyo Confidential in Japan.
Introducing the location, the well-known travel magazine said it is quite easy to simply walk past this hidden little watering hole.
Why Skua in Edinburgh is one of the best bars in the world
According to Time Out: "The staff are real pros and the impeccable cocktail menu makes use of homemade liquors, syrups and fermentations with a ‘no to low waste’ philosophy, packed with surprising pairings which work very, very well."
The publication said that Friday, after work, is the best time to visit, with the bar in Scotland opening late, allowing patrons to enjoy its neon signage and painted black walls, which provide a proper late-night feel.
A Kim’s Chi from here, with its hints of mescal and Ancho Reyes chile liquor, is said to bring a "taste-bud-tickling" sensation.
Alcohol is not the only thing on offer here, with the establishment enjoying "impressive" cooking, according to the Michelin Guide.
The culinary experts said: "This tiny basement operation in the suburb of Stockbridge comes with dark, moody décor and impressive cooking from the get-go.
"The menu of rustic sharing plates pushes flavour-packed British ingredients to the fore, and the dishes are pleasingly free of superfluous elements, allowing their central components to shine.
"A carefully curated list includes a selection of natural wines, with those available by the glass listed on the blackboard. Cheery, well-organised service adds to the experience."
