A Hunter business has applied to undertake a more than $20 million renovation project, including a new three-storey car park.
Club Maitland City in Rutherford lodged a development application on April 7 to upgrade the 2.48-hectare site.
The business has valued the build at 14 Arthur Street at about $21.4 million.
The project will involve partial demolition, alterations and additions to the club, a multi-storey carpark, new signage and boundary adjustments.
The existing club has a ground level, open-air car park with access via Arthur Street.
The business is proposing to keep part of the open-air parking space and add a three-level decked car park structure that will accommodate a total of 302 parking spots, 10 of which will be accessible spots.
The development would see parking at the club increase by 51 spaces.
The indoor car park will have a fixed roof canopy structure and extensive solar panels which will generate energy for the club and five electric vehicle spots on level one of the car park.
A new glazed roof was planned to be put in at ground level in the space between the decked car park and the existing club entry area with new signage on the Arthur Street, Melbee Street and New England Highway frontages.
As part of the development, a new circular access and manoeuvring area will be added at the northern section of the site that will also accommodate a full-length bus parking area, mini-bus parking, cart layover and pick-up and drop-off zones.
The development would include a new landscape plan at the ground level and the perimeter of the car park with new plants, retention of trees on site, pedestrian paths and new stone walls.
While the land was identified as being located within a mine subsidence district, an investigation showed that it was unlikely that any mine workings were encountered below the site.
