Why this County Durham veterinary practice has been praised as outstanding

Prince Bishop Vets is the UK's sole recipient of six “outstanding” awards for excellence in a range of categories.

The County Durham practice in Leadsgate, has been praised by a handful of critics and clients and has now gained a handful of awards.

Karen Hutton, the practice manager, said: “The cat-friendly clinic programme has helped us take a fresh look at how we help feline patients by creating a more cat-friendly practice and reducing stress."

Instrumental measures such as specialist training, a separate waiting area and blankets have been introduced to ensure feline clientele are relaxed for the duration of their visit.

These initiatives will be maintained by nursing assistant Melanie Sterling who has the role of 'cat advocate'.

The award, along with the renewal of hospital status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), goes a long way in illustrating not only the progress they have made, but the calibre of service they can offer customers.

The commitment to feline care shown by Prince Bishop Vets has also prompted it to be recognised as a Cat-Friendly Clinic by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM), a charity dedicated to improving the care of cats.

In total, the practice has received well over 150 nominations in categories such as Veterinary practice of the Year and Receptionist of the Year.

The achievements of Prince Bishops Vets will be celebrated at the upcoming ceremony in Birmingham on April 2nd.
