Thibaut Courtois’ Real Madrid future was plunged into doubt after Zinedine Zidane returned to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Courtois joined Los Blancos last summer in a £40million move from Chelsea and was first choice under Zidane’s predecessor, Santiago Solari.
But the Belgian was a signing that Zidane was against during his first spell as manager at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And the 26-year-old has been demoted to second choice since the Frenchman’s return to the club, with Zidane continuing to place his trust in Keylor Navas - the man with whom he won three successive Champions League titles.
On Sunday, for the home clash Huesca, Zidane elected to rest Navas - and selected his son, Luca Zidane, between the sticks for his La Liga debut.
That duly led to taunts towards Courtois, and further suggestions that his first season in the Spanish capital with Madrid will be his last.
However, what was missed is that the ex-Blues stopper is currently suffering from tendinitis.
A medical report on Saturday released by Real Madrid revealed that, despite Courtois playing for Belgium during the international break, he is struggling with injury.
"Following the tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his right rectus femoris
"His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
His future at Real Madrid is far from certain, and the switch has been anything but what he expected when leaving Stamford Bridge last summer.
However, suggestions he was dropped for Sunday’s clash were far from accurate.
