Why there were huge queues on stretch of M62 towards Greater Manchester on Wednesday evening

There was heavy congestion on the motorway heading towards Greater Manchester from West Yorkshire after traffic on the M62 was stopped due to a crash.

The crash, which involved two cars, saw the M62 westbound stopped at around 5.35pm today, September 29.

The collision was between junction 23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) and junction 22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

Congestion stacked back to beyond junction 24 for Ainley Top.

Traffic was held for around 20 minutes while the vehicles were recovered.

All lanes have, however, been reopened and traffic is moving through the area now.

Traffic service Inrix said: "Very slow traffic due to earlier accident, two cars involved on M62 Westbound from J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

"Congestion to beyond J24 (Ainley Top). Travel time is around 35 minutes.

"All lanes have been re-opened. Traffic was held at 17:35 for around 20 minutes, whilst the vehicles involved were recovered."
