Why there were fire crews at Sea Walls and Avon Gorge last night

Avon Fire and Rescue Service were at the Sea Walls on Clifton Downs last night, for a training exercise.

People driving along the Portway may have spotted the crews, lit up by huge lights, on the edge of Avon Gorge.

This morning (October 27) Temple Fire station tweeted to say its 'Red Watch' team were carrying out a rope rescue drill.

They said: "Red Watch completed a rope rescue drill at the Sea walls in Clifton last night.

"Not a bad view.. Followed this up with some alarms calls, bin chute fire and a medical incident on the way back!.

The team was also called to a fire in a block of flats in the city centre last night, for the second time in two days. The incident is being treated as arson.

Fire crews are also still working at the scene of a serious crash on a major A road in North Somerset. The incident on the Portbury Hundred is affecting M5 traffic, with people being told to avoid junction 19 of the M5.
