Why there was a police helicopter circling Nottingham in the early hours

A police helicopter was spotted above the streets of a city centre suburb in the early hours of this Thursday (April 23).

Circling the Lenton area for around 45 minutes, the chopper had been deployed following reports of an attempted break in.

Officers had been called to Dunlop Avenue, a small residential street, just after midnight on Thursday, April 23.

Police were told a man had tried to get into a house through a window but was challenged by the occupant.

The helicopter was then sent out in search of a possible offender.

A force spokesman told Nottinghamshire Live: "We were called to a report of an attempted break-in at Dunlop Avenue. At just after 12midnight this morning (Thursday 23 April), we were told that a man had tried to get in through a window but was challenged by the occupant. The police helicopter was out searching for a possible offender."
