Why there are 58 picks in the 2023 NBA Draft and not a full 60

Yep, that’s right, you’re not reading it wrong: There are 30 teams in the NBA and two rounds to the NBA Draft. Thirty times two equals, 60, right?

So: Why are there 58 picks this year, as you might have noticed in every mock draft including ours?

There’s a simple answer for that query. It’s thanks to one word: Tampering!

The Philadelphia 76ers lost their 2023 second-rounder and will lose another one next year because the league found the franchise started free agency discussions with Danuel House Jr. and P.J. Tucker before they were allowed to do so.

The Chicago Bulls were found to have violated league rules in the way they handled a sign-and-trade for Lonzo Ball before free agency officially began. So no second-rounder for them this year.

There’s your answer!
