Why the Police Scotland helicopter was out over Edinburgh on Friday

Police Scotland's helicopter was called out on Friday evening to reports of antisocial behaviour involving motorcycles in Edinburgh.

The air unit was seen hovering over the north west of the city by residents.

It was helping with an ongoing search for those responsible for the unsafe behaviour.

It's the second time the helicopter has been called out to deal with a motorcycle incident in the north west of Edinburgh this month, following the arrest of a 23-year-old man.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On the evening of Friday, 21 June, local officers, and Road Policing resources in Edinburgh, were supported by colleagues from the Air Support Unit to conduct search activity in the North West of the city, following reports of antisocial motorcycle activity.

"Inquiries into these reports are continuing as part of the ongoing and anyone with information should contact police via 101 or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Separately, a 16-year-old was arrested over the attempted theft of a motorbike on Willowbrae Road on Saturday.
