Why the police helicopter was seen circling over South Gloucestershire

A suspected burglar was found hiding under a bush by a police helicopter crew after an early hours break-in at a shop in Pucklechurch.

Police were called at 2.17 am on August 11 (Tuesday) to a report of a burglary in progress in Westerleigh Road.

Two men had been seen by a member of the public breaking into the shop.

Officers subsequently stopped a car seen driving away from the scene at speed and arrested a man and woman on suspicion of burglary.

A further man was found hiding under a bush and was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

All three have been released and enquiries are continuing.

A police spokesman said: “ We were called at 2.17 am on Tuesday, 11 August to a report of a burglary in progress in Pucklechurch.

“Two men had been seen breaking into a shop on Westerleigh Road.

"Officers subsequently stopped a car seen driving away from the scene at speed and arrested a man and woman on suspicion of burglary.

“The police helicopter later found the outstanding man hiding under a bush.

“He too was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

“All three remain have been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing."

The helicopter – which disturbed the sleep of residents in Pucklechurch, Mangotsfield and Staple Hill - was also called out earlier that evening in the search for a missing man.
