Why the police helicopter was circling Bristol on Thursday afternoon

A police helicopter was seen and heard in the skies over Bristol this afternoon (March 23). Police have now confirmed why it was circling the area.

The chopper flew over Cabot Circus before heading over the River Avon towards Bedminster. It then finished by circling Hartcliffe at around 5.30pm.

In a recent update, Sergeant Joe Iles, of Avon and Somerset Police, announced that the force were hunting for a stolen motorbike. It was eventually recovered and an investigation has begun to find the offender.

He said at 9.27pm: "Stolen motorbike, now recovered and enquires are ongoing to identify rider." Bristol residents took to social media to speculate about the helicopter, with one person reporting it was flying low to the ground as it searched for the motorbike.
