Why the police helicopter and multiple emergency services were busy in Swansea Bay last night

A major search was sparked last night in Swansea Bay to trace a missing person. The police helicopter was used in support of officers who joined forces with crews from Mumbles lifeboat and the coastguard to look for the person.

They faced the added challenge of bad weather conditions.

The search first got underway at 7.44pm and finally came to an end at 10.02pm.

The National Police Air Service South West Region, tweeted: “Excellent teamwork with @SWPSwansea and @MumblesRescue in very challenging conditions this evening trying to locate a missing person in Swansea.

“Credit to the troops on the ground trying to follow our directions in little light and the pouring rain.

“Good result in the end.”

Mumbles Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team, in a post on Twitter, added: “Tasked to search Swansea Bay for missing person.

“@TheMumblesRNLI  @NPASSouthWest @SWPSwansea @CoastguardPT @HMCoastguard @hmcg_area13 an extensive immediate search.

“Casualty was found in Clyne Woods.

“Safe and well.”
