Ever since it came out in 2008, Mamma Mia! has become a classic feel-good summer hit, and not just because of the ABBA music and performances from stars including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Dominic Cooper, to name a few.
It's difficult not to get a serious dose of wanderlust when watching the film thanks to the beautiful sun-soaked Greek island backdrop, the white-washed buildings, beautiful villages and those azure ocean waters.
But what Greek Island was Mamma Mia filmed on?
For the first film, it was the breathtaking shores and towns of the Greek island of Skopelos which caught the production crew's attention, and it's not difficult to see why.

For a start it's not quite as famous as the likes of Rhodes, Crete and Santorini, meaning smaller crowds, which we assume is ideal if you're looking to film a blockbuster.
Then there's the fact that Skopelos has everything you could want for some major 'dream holiday' fodder.
Think beaches which are surrounded by dense, lush green scenery, with stretches of white sands that lead to crystalline waters - one example is Kastani Beach, which served as a filming location for Mamma Mia.
Then of course there are all of the beautiful walking trails nestled amidst the green trees and colourful plants, as well as the white-washed buildings, charming boutiques and local cafes tucked away in the alleyways and cobbled streets in Skopelos Town itself.
Most of the Mamma Mia filming was done on location across the beaches and the town, as well as some of the quieter scenic spots.
If you're after some more inspiration, Tripadvisor has a handy guide on some of the best things to see and do in Skopelos based on visitors' reviews.

The good news is that Mamma Mia has increased the island's popularity, meaning that there are plenty of different holiday options if you're looking to book a getaway.

Currently Greece - including the islands - is on the UK's amber lists, meaning that anyone returning to the UK will need to self-isolate for 10 days and take PCR tests on days two and eight. However, if you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 then you will be allowed to swerve the self-isolation.
It wasn't a Greek island that provided the setting for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, however.
For the sequel, the cast and crew headed to one of Croatia's best islands, Vis.
The furthest inhabited island off the coast of Croatia is about a two-hour ferry ride from Split, and it's home to two main towns - Vis and Komiža.

Expect plenty of history and culture courtesy of the museums, picturesque churches and local restaurants, while the pretty beaches are ideal for soaking up the sunshine.
If Vis is going on your holiday wishlist, the good news is that you won't need to break the bank to visit, as there are currently some tempting deals.

Croatia and its islands are currently on the green watchlist.
This means that you won't need to self-isolate when back in the UK, although you will need to take a PCR test on day two. (It's worth noting that the green watchlist, meaning it's at a higher risk of being moved to amber).
