Why the FA Cup final kick-off time has changed for today's Man Utd v Man City game

Today's FA Cup final will kick off at 3pm for the first time in 12 years.

The match would normally played later in the day, at 5.15pm or 5.30pm, but concerns from the Met Police have seen it moved forward to what many will see as a more traditional kick-off time.

Police have categorised the derby fixture as "high risk" and so pushed for the kick-off to be brought forward in meetings with FA officials.

It means the game will now clash with the Women's Champions League final taking place in the Netherlands, which kicks off at the same time. The 2023 Epsom Derby has also been moved to 1.30pm in order to avoid clashing with the Wembley showpiece event.

Transport issues have also been considered, with Beyonce performing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight. The earlier kick-off time also makes it easier for fans to get trains back up north following the game.

The FA Cup final is being broadcast live on BBC One and ITV 1. Coverage begins on BBC One at 1.50pm, and 2.05pm for ITV 1.
