Why the Express loves a good blast of Arctic weather

Newspaper stories about pending hot/cold/wet/dry weather are much loved by editors because they are cheap/unprovable till much later/good for sales/quickly forgotten. So Britain is going to endure “its coldest winter for 100 years” according to two Italian scientists studying the “October Pattern Index” and making big headlines for the Daily Express.

The Met Office says it’s only autumn and who knows? But Richard Desmond apparently knows better. Let’s make this a cut-out-and-keep prophecy to be revisited on 31 March 2015. And light a fire under cut-price predictions if the ice caps are still melting.
