Why the England cricket team are wearing black armbands against South Africa in T20 match

England are wearing black armbands during Wednesday's Twenty20 match against South Africa in memory of the daughter of former Glamorgan and England cricketer Steve James.

On Monday, James - who is now a sports journalist for the Times - announced the sudden death of 21-year-old Bethan.

He told the Times: “I am honoured that the England team are making this moving gesture in memory of our beautiful daughter.”

James, who captained Glamorgan and played two Test for England, had announced on Twitter on Monday, saying: "We have the most indescribably devastating news that our beautiful daughter Bethan suddenly passed away on Saturday evening.

"Our hearts are broken. She was the most wonderfully caring and kind daughter and sister to Rhys."

Today’s game at Buffalo Park is the first of three T20 internationals for England against South Africa.
