Why the Boston Celtics were winners in 2022 NBA free agency

With the potential blockbuster deals for Utah Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell and Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant still to be completed, the teams that moved aggressively and early have found themselves in a position of strength. Those who stood pat in the hopes of executing a blockbuster trade seem to have been left in the lurch.

How does that affect critical assessments of team offseasons around the NBA? As one of the teams that made their free-agent moves early in the 2022 offseason, the Boston Celtics could be seen as one of the winners from free agency, even though they never had much in the way of cap space for splashy signings anyway.
