Tesco stores across the country turned their lights off for an hour tonight.
The supermarket giant's blackout of non-essential lights in stores between 8.30pm and 9.30pm was done to raise awareness about how using energy can effect the environment.
The idea is part of Earth Hour, a worldwide movement organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Birmingham Mail reports.
Held every year, it encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
The supermarket tweeted: "Tonight we’re taking part in #EarthHour to raise awareness of the impact energy use can have on the environment and climate. Will you join us, @WWFand many others across the world, in switching off your lights from 8:30pm - 9:30pm tonight?"

Earth Hour was first launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
Landmarks around the world also showed support for the cause tonight with this year's event highlighting the link between the destruction of nature and increasing outbreaks of diseases like Covid-19.
In London, the Houses of Parliament, the Eye, Shard and Piccadilly Circus all switched off.
“It’s fantastic news that parliament once again is taking part in Earth Hour, joining landmarks across the country and the world to raise awareness of climate change,” said Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons.
“It shows our commitment to improving sustainability … and that we’re playing our part in reducing energy consumption,” he said.
