Why Susanna Reid apologised to Piers Morgan after GMB exit

Piers Morgan was disappointed at Susanna Reid's reaction to his Good Morning Britain exit, calling her on-air delivery "stony-faced" and "frosty".

Piers, 55, quit GMB mere hours after storming off set following a confrontation with Bristol-born weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's allegations about the Royal Family.

After the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired in the US, Piers ranted about Meghan on GMB. He said he was "sickened" by the interview, which he branded two-hour "trash-a-thon".

Among the accusations, Meghan accused a member of the royal family of expressing "concerns" over Archie's skin colour and said she felt suicidal and wasn't given help from the family.

However, Piers said he didn't believe either of Meghan's claims - sparking fury online as mental health charity Mind blasted his comments.

And now Piers has explained how he felt after seeing Susanna on the show following his comments in his first column since his exit for the Daily Mail.

He said: "At 6.30am, I turned on GMB to see what my 'TV wife' Susanna would say about our sudden divorce.

"Stony-faced, she read a short, rather frosty statement: Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things viewers loved about the programme.

"'He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.

"'He has many critics, and he has many fans. You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan's interview.

"'He himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday. There are many voices on GMB, and everyone has their say.

"'But now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer and others will boo.

"'He has been my presenting partner for more than five years and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.

"'It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.'

"Jeez, even my real ex-wife talks more fondly about me than that (and, in fact, did so overnight in a very supportive message)."

However, Piers said Susanna rang him later on in the week and says she "apologised for the tone of her chilly goodbye".

He has also said he "apologised for leaving her in the lurch so suddenly".

The former co-hosts have also also agreed to have lunch to celebrate their five years presenting together.
