Why Sunderland will wear their AWAY colours at Wembley

Sunderland will wear their black away kit for next Sunday's League One play-off final at Wembley.

Charlton's penalty shoot-out win over Doncaster on Friday night means a repeat of the 1998 First Division play-off, when the Addicks also won on penalties.

However, with both sides wearing red - or in Sunderland's case red-and-white - one side will have to wear the change kit.

And due to the fact Charlton finished higher up in League One than Sunderland - third to the Wearsiders' fifth - it's Jack Ross' side who will have to change.

It was a similar story in 98 when Peter Reid's Black Cats wore their gold away kit, although Sunderland fans will be hoping for a different outcome to 21 years ago when, after a thrilling 4-4 draw, they suffered penalty agony.
