Why Strictly didn't have a Halloween special this year... it left fans fuming

Strictly Come Dancing fans were fuming when they realised that the show wasn't doing a Halloween theme this year.

Upset viewers took to Twitter to have their say when they saw the annual ghoulish special wasn't happening.

"On a week when Halloween is ON A SATURDAY," shouted one viewer on Twitter.

"Why have you taken Halloween away from us? As if 2020 hasn’t been bad enough! Very disappointed Strictly," commented another.

"Why is Strictly not doing Halloween? Don't they always do Halloween? I mean... It IS Halloween?!" tweeted another.

Bosses made the decision not to have a Halloween theme this year on the BBC dance show as they deemed it too soon to hold a special after the launch last week.

Strictly, which usually arrives on our screens in September, started later than usual this year because of COVID-19.

Another fan suggested: "Am I in a minority of one being gleeful that tonight's Strictly is about the dancing and not about the daft Halloween costumes? I suspect so."

While other viewers thought they saw some Halloween elements creep in anyway, with routines and costumes including Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez's fierce Tango to Miley Cyrus' Midnight Sky.

"I know they’re not doing Halloween week technically but this feels like half the cast got the memo it’s halloween and the other half didn’t," said one fan.

"Halloween sneaking its way onto Strictly even though it was banned," said another.

Executive producer Sarah James previously explained the decision to the Radio Times in September.

She said: “We will have movie week and we will have musicals week, but we won’t have Halloween this year.

"Instead we have done a Halloween group number, but Halloween actually falls on the second week this year so we thought that might be a bit too early for a themed week.

“Obviously we won’t be able to go to Blackpool this year, unfortunately, but we will be doing a very special celebration of Blackpool in one of the shows.”
