Why Strictly Come Dancing judges are not allowed to clap during show

Strictly Come Dancing judges cannot clap during one specific performance.

Shirley Ballas told Good Morning Britain "nobody's allowed to clap" while Rose Ayling-Ellis is dancing.

The show's head judge has revealed all everyone has been deliberately asked not to applaud whilst Rose - who is deaf - performs so she is able to "feel the vibrations" of the music on the dance floor.

Speaking on GMB this week, she said: "Nobody's allowed to clap whilst she's dancing so she can feel the vibrations of the floor. So the music's just a hair louder. She's got that beautiful feelings of vibrations, so her other senses are really really heightened."

Shirley also praised Rose's partner, dancer Giovanni Pernice, for doing an "immaculate job" of training her.

She continued: "I think Giovanni, first of all, has done an absolutely immaculate job. We have a translator just off to our left that's helping her understand what's going on and the criticisms and the critiques."

Rose and Giovanni have impressed the judges and the viewers at home throughout their stint on the show, scoring great scores and wowing with a variety of dances including the stunning Halloween-themed Tango to Ed Sheeran's hit Shivers, the Mirror reports.

The two scored the perfect 40 out of 40 during last weekend's Halloween special, and were the quickest duo to ever receive full marks on the show.

With fewer couples performing, Saturday's show started at the earlier time of 6.45pm on BBC One.

Sunday's results show will air at 7.15pm.
