Why Steve Bruce is planning on doing more than just parking the bus at Anfield and what concerns Jurgen Klopp

Steve Bruce is not surprised that Newcastle United fans still snapped up the 3,000 tickets on offer for the Magpies' trip to Anfield - despite a 25-year wait for a Premier League win.

Even amidst that awful record, Toon fans have made plenty of noise in the Anfield Road End down the years.

Bruce told the Chronicle: "It's defiance.

"And our supporters are world renowned for it.

"I think it's like anything, they enjoy going to the big arenas.

"

They enjoyed it at Spurs

, it's what supporting your team is all about - and what the Premier League is all about.

"There is no better team than Liverpool for me, some may say Man City of course.

"Look around Europe, Liverpool are as good as you get that.

"But it's a great occasion, let's go and have a crack."

Bruce regards Liverpool as one of the best teams in Europe and added: "We haven't won since 1994 - a hell of a long time ago.

"Then again we aren't alone in that respect.

"They haven't lost at home for those two and half years.

"Liverpool is Liverpool - one of the biggest institutions of British football.

"Let's enjoy the occasion, I am sure the supporters can roar their team on and we can put on a show.

"We are under no illusion, Liverpool haven't lost at home for two and a half years.

"They are European champions.

"They are as good as you can get."

Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, says he will not underestimate Newcastle.

When asked how the Magpies will go about their business, he said: "Let's hope we can defend well and pose a threat on the counter attack.

"Against Spurs yes they had a huge possession count but we still posed a threat.

"We had one or two opportunities where we almost scored another.

"I hope we can go down there and do it again.

"Let's take part in the game and go and enjoy it."

When asked if Newcastle pose any threat, Klopp said: "Newcastle will fight like crazy. Like they did at Tottenham.

"They had 20% possession at Tottenham but they deserved the points.

"This will be a real challenge for us.

"As Steve Bruce has said, records are there to be broken."
