Why Southampton vs Brentford Premier League clash isn't on TV in the UK

Premier League football returns this evening following the FA Cup third round, as Southampton and Brentford lock horns.

Just two points separate the two sides, with Brentford having the advantage, both teams will be looking to push on to increase their stability heading into the second half of the season.

However, fans in the UK may be disappointed to discover that they won't be able to settle down in front of the TV to watch the game as the 19.45pm match isn't being televised.

Neither Sky Sports or BT Sport picked up the match as part of their offerings this season, which means that, despite the reschedule, it won't be available live to UK audiences.

The match was due to be played on Saturday, 18th December at 3pm but was postponed at the request of Brentford following an outbreak of COVID-19 in the squad.

That weekend, Manchester United's hosting of Brighton and Arsenal's trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United were the televised offerings on Saturday.

Sunday followed with Newcastle United's clash with Manchester City and Tottenham's tie against Liverpool in north London.

Everton's Premier League match against Leicester City at Goodison Park was also selected for TV but was postponed due to a covid outbreak - and has since been postponed again.

As it was initially selected by Sky Sports, it is expected that the fixture will be televised on its eventual rescheduled date.

With Brentford's clash with Southampton not picked up initially, the game will not be available to watch live for domestic audiences.

Sky Sports have now confirmed that extended highlights from the Brentford v Southampton match will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League at 9pm on Tuesday night.
