Why some trains in East Midlands were suspended this morning

Train services in the East Midlands were suspended as the emergency services dealt with an 'incident' this morning (August 28).

A number of services travelling into Nottingham Railway Station were disrupted from around 6.54am, including Cross Country trains coming from Birmingham New Street.

Many of these services were cancelled at the last minute.

The incident had occurred between Derby and Burton, Cross Country trains said.

In a statement, the company said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Derby and Burton - all lines are blocked as a result. Services may be altered, delayed or cancelled at short notice."

However, in an update posted at 8.35am, the company added all lines have since reopened as the incident has cleared.

Trains are now running as usual.
