Why so many celebrities fall victim to the dreaded Strictly Curse

The Strictly Curse has become as infamous as the show is famous.

Many celebrities who've taken part in Strictly Come Dancing have ended up splitting from their wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends.

And many have coupled up with their professional partner too.

Kevin Clifton and Stacey Dooley famously fell in love during their winning stint together on the BBC show last year, as did their co-stars Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell.

Rachel Riley fell in love with Pasha Kovalev while they were partnered together and Seann Walsh split from his girlfriend after controversially kissing his married pro Katya Jones.

The Curse dates all the way back to 2004 when it claimed its first victim Natasha Kaplinsky.

The newsreader's pro partner Brendan Cole was engaged at the time, when rumours of his relationship with Natasha began to swirl.

There have been many other examples since, but why does the Curse hit so many?

A relationship expert from dating app Badoo exclusively told Mirror Online: "The Strictly curse has had a lot of bad press for breaking up relationships and whilst some have gone to develop into something more serious, more often than not the chemistry is situational.

"For more than 50 years, relationship researchers have consistently found that one of the most powerful predictors of attraction is proximity (physical distance).

"Data suggests that as long as we initially feel neutral or positive about a person, being around them will increase our liking for them. So it is no surprise that dancers end up falling for each other, training every day in very close proximity.

"My other thought is the more obvious idea of dancing being quite a sexual activity, so perhaps chemistry is fuelled by that too.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few relationships develop out of this year’s line-up – rehearsals are intense, they involve long hours, lots of discipline and determination.

"It’s such a unique experience that can see people go through both a mental and physical transformation."
