Why Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte aren't in Man City squad vs Leeds United

Sergio Aguero has suffered a new injury setback that has forced him out of one of his final Etihad Stadium appearances for Manchester City.

With only two more Premier League home fixtures this season - plus a potential Champions League semi-final home leg - outgoing City legend Aguero is running out of games at the stadium he has been so prolific in the last ten years.

So to lose Aguero for the fixture against Leeds is another blow, with Pep Guardiola confirming he has been unable to train since the win over Borussia Dortmund.

Also missing from the squad to face Leeds was defender Aymeric Laporte, who Guardiola confirmed picked up a slight issue in training on Friday.

"He has niggles," Guardiola told BT Sport of Aguero's absence.

"He had problems last three, four days and couldn't train. Laporte had problems yesterday in the hips and doctors said he could not play."

In their place, Nathan Ake starts in defence, while Raheem Sterling makes only his second start in the last seven games.

Explaining those selections, Guardiola said: "[Ake] was injured a long time, he's trained three weeks or month. When the most pleased I am as a manager is to give minutes to nice people.

"In the good moments when he plays or bad moments when he doesn't play he's always ready. He's beloved by his teammates and happy he can play."

On Sterling, the manager added: "He's an important player for us. Everything we achieve in the last years impossible without him. In the last games, Bernardo, Riyad, Phil outstanding and they play."
