Why Scott Brown to Rangers transfer link had Hibs players 'taking the p***' ahead of Celtic move

Former Hibs captain Rob Jones says the Easter Road squad "took the p***" out of suggestions that Scott Brown could sign for Rangers ahead of his Celtic switch.

Jones says the players always knew he was going to make the move to Parkhead, and there was never any prospect of him joining Rangers despite interest from Ibrox.

When asked how his Hibs team-mates reacted to suggestions he was bound for Govan, Jones told the Football Daft podcast: "I think a few of us took the p*** out of them to be honest.

"We all knew he wasn't going to Rangers. I think conversations had been had and questions had been answered with regards to what Scott Brown was doing.

"Remember, Scott Brown nearly went in the January window and he stayed until the end of the Cup final.

"But I knew Scott was going to go to Celtic."

Brown will go down as a Celtic legend, as the captain to have led the club to nine titles in a row and a treble-treble.

However his Parkhead career was almost over before it even started – and he could've left after just one week.

Jones added: "Newcastle came in at the last minute with an outrageous bid.

"I think he had only been at Celtic for a week and Newcastle offered to double his money to go there.

"But I think it was all done and dusted quite early."
