Given the slew of bonkers movie press tours in recent years where behind the scenes drama has been palpable, it’s refreshing to see one where the stars struggle to contain their adoration for each other. Yes, we’re talking about Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, who can’t seem to stop smooching on every Jurassic World Rebirth red carpet available.
Alongside Mahershala Ali, Johansson and Bailey helm the exciting new incarnation of the long-beloved franchise, portraying the latest group of dinosaur-chasers.
Photos of Bailey in his “slutty little glasses” as Dr Henry Loomis went viral, and having seen a sneaky preview of the film, let me tell you, his on-screen chemistry with Johansson is next level.
But hey, don’t take my word for it! Just have a go at them at the Jurassic World Rebirth premieres:

Speaking to the dynamic trio ahead of the film’s release, I asked what prompted the red carpet kissy-kissy moments that had viewers shrieking like a pterodactyl.
“Extreme desire,” Johansson responded, adding: “Uncontrollable desire.”
In a too-cute-for-words moment, she and Bailey then say in unison: “To share our chapstick.”
“She lost a bit of colour on her lips so she wanted to borrow some of mine,” Bailey said jokingly.
“Yeah, I saw him from across the room and I said, ‘That colour will match my dress!'” Johansson added, before saying with a more sincere tone: “We all really love one another, we have such a wonderful, warm cast and like we said, we’ve shared some great memories and when you’re sharing such a huge achievement, it’s better to do it with your friends.
“We all have a lot of love for each other, so it was really exciting to reunite on the red carpet time and again… and the chapstick thing.”
Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the new flick sees our dinosaur friends banished to remote locations for their survival.
Covert operatives Zora Bennett (Johansson) and Duncan Kincaid (Ali) are recruited by pharmaceutical company overlord Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend), along with paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey) to help retrieve biomaterials from dinosaurs on a remote island that will help create a new drug capable of curing diseases.
I asked Johansson, Bailey and Ali how they reacted to finding out who they’d be working with on this juggernaut of a film.
Johansson said she breathed a “giant sigh of relief” when she learned who else had been cast.
“I was the first actor to sign up for it and so you don’t know how the cast is going to round-out, but I was very excited to work with both of these actors,” she told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“And then when the cast continued to further round-out, they hired Rupert, who is a friend of mine, we worked together with Wes Anderson. I thought, ‘This is going to be fun! All of these great actors are involved so it feels like we all have to step up our game and challenge one another, which was great. It made going to work everyday something you look forward to, even though the days were going to be challenging, I was excited to see everyone every morning.”
Ali added: “It makes your job so much easier to work with people who are really talented, I went from being excited to inspired everyday.”
On the never-ending thrill ride that ensues in the film, the aforementioned characters link-up with a family lost at sea, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda.
It’s a stacked ensemble cast who gel as well together IRL as they did on-screen.
“We’d all see each other a lot of the time and we’d meet up after work,” Johansson said. “When we were in Malta we’d all meet up by the pool and cool off ‘cos it was so hot. It was really nice, it gave us that kind of familial feeling.”
Bailey — who is in the middle of an all-time run with Bridgerton and Wicked parts 1 and 2 — revealed Johansson was “not only an amazing leader on set but she was also social chair and did really special [things] to bring us together”.
“We had lovely dinners and there was always something going on,” he said.
Johansson opined that keeping a vibe going on and off set was crucial given that “very terrible things happened to you everyday physically”, which was “amazingly hilarious”, such as wading through mangroves and being sprayed by an intense water jet.
“I had water coming out of every orifice,” she said. “You find a lot of humour in it because you’re just so uncomfortable, so we laughed a lot.”
Jurassic World Rebirth hits cinemas July 3.
