The New Orleans Saints selected Texas A&M center Erik McCoy with the 49th overall pick.
McCoy has all of the makings of a long-term starter at center. He is an athletic lineman who can move well in space and advance to the second level quickly, and his 4.89 40-yard dash matches his speed on tape. He has a strong frame and has solid anchor strength in his lower body. McCoy is also an intelligent blocker who can pick up combo blocks and double-teams well.
With the retirement of Max Unger, the Saints needed a new center. McCoy is a plug-and-play starter who will protect Drew Brees and pave some running lanes for Alvin Kamara.
