Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial sat out Manchester United’s open training session at the WACA Stadium on Thursday night.
Lukaku, 26, wants to leave United to join Internazionale but United confirmed the striker and Martial are doing ‘alternative gym-based training’. The pair trained on Thursday morning, it is understood.
Sources close to Lukaku said the Belgian has a ‘little problem’ and the feeling is it would be better for him not to risk aggravating the injury.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has flown to London this week to meet United officials in an attempt to thrash out a deal for Lukaku.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to have asked Lukaku to stay beyond the transfer window but the £75million centre forward has felt marginalised since the Norwegian’s appointment in December.
Lukaku has started 15 of Solskjaer’s 29 matches in charge and is keen to work with new Inter coach Antonio Conte, whom tried to sign Lukaku when he was Chelsea manager two years ago.
The club wants a cash deal for Lukaku two years on from signing him for £75million from Everton. Everton will receive £5m from any transfer fee Lukaku commands and United are reluctant to make a loss on a player with three years left on their contract.
The Belgian started 15 of Solskjaer's 29 games in charge of United last season. Lukaku had no intention of leaving United under Jose Mourinho and agreed to address the media for the October Champions League pre-match press conference against Juventus with the objective of quashing rumours of a move to Italy.
