Why Richard Hammond isn't presenting Total Wipeout as it returns after eight years tonight

Total Wipeout is finally returning tonight after eight years - but it might look a little different from how fans will remember it being.

Host Richard Hammond won't be returning to the show alongside his co-star Amanda Byram.

Instead, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness will step in to present the show tonight in their 'takeover'.

Richard presented Total Wipeout for five series from 2009 until 2012, who acted as the commentator in the studio for the challenges.

Meanwhile Amanda was with the contestants taking part in the obstacle course in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Richard cut his ties with the BBC three years after Total Wipeout was axed after he, James May and Jeremy Clarkson left Top Gear following the latter's dismissal from the motoring programme.

Instead, the trio were signed to Amazon Prime for The Grand Tour from 2016, which led to them becoming Britain's highest earning TV stars last year after earning £86,783 a day.

Meanwhile Paddy and Andrew became Top Gear presenters from 2019 onwards after taking over from Matt LeBlanc and Rory Reid.

Tonight, viewers will watch as Freddie and Paddy provide the voiceover for the iconic game show.

Twenty men and women will tackle a number of obstacles, including those famous bouncy red balls.

Those who manage to make it to the final three will get the chance to compete to win £10,000.
