Why Richard and Judy will takeover from Holly and Phil on This Morning

Legends Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan are returning to the presenting couch after a 18 year hiatus - and they are taking over from favourites Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

The married duo are returning to This Morning which they hosted for more than ten years.

They will be presenting on Fridays for a two-hour stint in stand in for Eamonn Holmes, 59, and Ruth Langsford, 59 - with Phil and Holly covering their usual Monday to Thursday slot.

Richard and Judy, 63 and 71 respectively presented at the launch of the show in 1988 until 2001 when they quite over a row with ITV bosses and Judy vowed never to return.

The couple said: “This Morning holds a very special place in our hearts, so we couldn’t be more delighted to take the helm once again.”

Judy had vowed in 2011 never to return. She said: “I wouldn’t remotely want to do television again.”

But the turnaround seems to have been sparked by the pair going on the show last month as guests, with Richard promoting his new book club.

They got such a warm response from viewers that they agreed to be guest hosts.

Show editor Martin Frizell said: “We can’t wait to have these broadcasting legends back on the sofa.

"The time finally felt right and we can’t wait to have these broadcasting legends back on the sofa.”

You can watch Richard and Judy on This Morning on ITV for a month every Friday starting October 25 at 10.30am.

Richard and Judy covered the sad death of Diana, Princess of Wales, introduced the first-ever live testicular exam on air, as well as the first live gay blessing and presented whilst there was a naked streaker on the famous floating weather map.
